Pursuit & Proposal Writer

Role Summary

We are looking for Pursuit & Proposal Writers with different levels of experience to develop clear, compelling and client-focused content for sales opportunities and proposals.

In this role, you will collaborate with subject matter experts, designers and other pursuit team members to research, write, edit and refine content that communicates complex ideas clearly and supports the overall proposal strategy.

Depending on your experience and seniority, you may adapt existing content for specific opportunities or take greater ownership of original writing, storytelling and content development for large and complex deals. You may also review the work of others and support the development of junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on the position and level of seniority, responsibilities may include:

• Write, edit, research and proofread content for proposals and other pursuit-related materials.

• Participate in proposal storyboarding and content-planning sessions.

• Adapt and tailor standard content to specific client requirements and opportunities.

• Transform complex business or technical information into clear, concise and engaging content.

• Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop and refine proposal content.

• Partner with designers and other creative professionals to develop integrated written and visual materials.

• Apply editorial guidelines and writing best practices to ensure clarity, consistency and quality.

• Review content for grammar, tone, structure, consistency and alignment with proposal objectives.

• Contribute to and leverage internal content repositories and reusable assets.

• Participate in peer reviews and share writing and editing best practices across the team.

• Contribute to the broader Pursuit Writing community and knowledge-sharing activities.

Additional Responsibilities For Senior Positions

At more experienced levels, responsibilities may also include:

• Apply conceptual writing and storytelling techniques to large and complex sales opportunities.

• Own the development of standard proposal sections and other key content.

• Work directly with subject matter experts to develop original, client-focused narratives.

• Conduct peer reviews and provide actionable editorial feedback.

• Support training and coaching of junior team members.

• Promote consistent writing and editorial standards across pursuit teams.

• Provide greater ownership of the writing process for complex or high-priority opportunities.

Required Skills / Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional writing or related experience.

• Native-level English proficiency, or equivalent professional proficiency required to independently write and edit complex business content.

• Demonstrated professional experience in writing, editing, proofreading and content development.

• Strong command of business writing and professional language.

• Familiarity with professional editorial guidelines and writing standards.

• Ability to research unfamiliar topics and translate findings into clear, audience-focused content.

• Ability to collaborate with subject matter experts, designers and other cross-functional stakeholders.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

• Ability to independently manage writing assignments in a virtual working environment.

• Ability to review information and make content and editorial decisions based on audience, context and communication objectives.

Experience by Level

Pursuit / Proposal Writer

Typically 2+ years of professional writing or related experience .

At this level, candidates should demonstrate experience in areas such as:

• Writing, editing and proofreading professional content.

• Adapting existing content for different audiences or requirements.

• Applying established editorial guidelines.

• Conducting research to support content development.

• Collaborating with creative or business stakeholders.

• Working with content repositories and reusable materials.

• Supporting proposal storyboarding and content development activities.

Senior Pursuit / Proposal Writer

Typically 4+ years of professional writing or related experience .

At this level, candidates should additionally demonstrate:

• Experience developing original content for complex business requirements.

• Experience using conceptual writing and storytelling techniques.

• Ability to own proposal sections or significant content deliverables.

• Experience partnering directly with subject matter experts to develop and refine content.

• Experience conducting peer reviews and providing editorial feedback.

• Ability to support the training or coaching of less-experienced writers.

• Greater autonomy in managing writing assignments for large or complex opportunities.

Preferred Skills / Qualifications

• Professional writing experience related to technology, IT services or technical topics.

• Previous experience with sales proposals, RFP responses, bids or other business development content.

• Experience translating complex technical or business concepts for non-technical audiences.

• Experience working with geographically distributed or virtual teams.

• Experience using generative AI platforms to research, develop or locate content.

• Experience developing prompts that enable generative AI tools to produce relevant, tailored and high-quality business content.

• Experience coaching or providing editorial feedback to other writers, particularly for more senior opportunities.
