*Engagement Overview*

LoanBud is seeking an independent contractor to provide senior full stack engineering services, helping build, maintain, and improve our proprietary lending and workflow platform.

The platform is used by borrowers, loan officers, processors, underwriters, referral partners, lenders, and internal operating teams. It supports the financing process from initial application through document collection, prequalification, underwriting, lender collaboration, approval, and closing.

This is a hands-on engagement with a strong backend focus. Services will be delivered primarily within our Java and Spring Boot environment, while also contributing to TypeScript front-end functionality, third-party integrations, database development, background processing, cloud infrastructure, and other parts of the LoanBud technology platform.

We are looking for a provider comfortable working inside an existing production application. We are not looking for someone who immediately wants to rebuild the platform from the ground up. We need someone who can understand the current architecture, improve it thoughtfully, resolve technical bottlenecks, and deliver reliable functionality.

The contractor will coordinate with LoanBud's leadership, product, operations, lending, and other development resources as needed to deliver the agreed services. This engagement calls for strong technical judgment, clear communication, and the ability to own a deliverable from initial requirements through production deployment.

*Scope of Services*

The contractor will provide services which may include:

* Build, test, deploy, and maintain functionality across the LoanBud platform. * Develop backend services, APIs, business logic, security controls, and integrations using Java 21 and Spring Boot. * Build and improve front-end functionality using TypeScript. * Design and maintain PostgreSQL database models, queries, relationships, and migrations. * Use Spring Data JPA to develop reliable and maintainable database access. * Create and manage database migrations using Liquibase. * Build secure authentication and authorization functionality using Spring Security and JWT. * Develop and maintain API specifications, interfaces, and models using OpenAPI. * Integrate internal and external services using REST APIs, webhooks, and OpenFeign. * Build and support asynchronous jobs, scheduled processes, retries, and workflow monitoring using JobRunR. * Implement and maintain business and underwriting rules using Drools. * Support document storage and retrieval through AWS S3. * Build and maintain email, PDF, and document-generation functionality using Thymeleaf and Playwright. * Support SMS and communications functionality using Twilio. * Maintain appropriate caching and application-performance controls using Caffeine. * Support integrations between LoanBud's internal systems and customer-facing applications. * Contribute to PHP-based backend functionality when required. * Help maintain and improve AWS infrastructure and Terraform configurations. * Diagnose and resolve production bugs, failed jobs, performance issues, security concerns, and integration failures. * Improve application speed, reliability, mobile responsiveness, security, and usability. * Produce clean, maintainable, tested, and well-documented code. * Contribute to code reviews, technical planning, testing, release management, and production deployments. * Improve monitoring, logging, error handling, and visibility into production systems. * Evaluate technical tradeoffs based on speed, scalability, maintainability, cost, and business impact. * Communicate clearly about progress, risks, dependencies, and blockers. * Take ownership of agreed deliverables and follow through until the functionality is working properly in production.

*Required Experience and Capabilities*

* Five or more years of professional software engineering experience. * Strong professional experience with Java and Spring Boot. * Experience building and maintaining production APIs and backend services. * Strong understanding of relational databases and PostgreSQL. * Experience with Spring Data JPA or a comparable ORM. * Experience building front-end functionality using TypeScript. * Experience designing and integrating REST APIs and webhooks. * Experience with authentication, authorization, JWT, and role-based permissions. * Experience working with background jobs, scheduled processes, queues, or asynchronous workflows. * Experience deploying and supporting applications within AWS or a comparable cloud environment. * Understanding of Git, automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and production deployment practices. * Ability to troubleshoot issues across the front end, backend, database, infrastructure, and third-party integrations. * Understanding of secure software-development practices and the handling of sensitive customer and financial information. * Ability to understand a business or operational problem and translate it into practical software. * Strong written and spoken English. * General availability for collaboration overlapping U.S. Eastern Time business hours. * Strong organizational skills, personal accountability, and attention to detail. * Ability to work autonomously while maintaining clear communication and visibility. * Willingness to work within and improve an existing platform rather than unnecessarily replacing working systems.

*Nice to Have*

Java 21 / Spring Boot 3; Liquibase, MapStruct, OpenAPI Generator, OpenFeign, Caffeine or Lombok; JobRunR or another job framework; Drools or another rules engine; Thymeleaf, Playwright or HTML-to-PDF; Twilio; AWS S3; Terraform; PHP; fintech/lending/regulated-industry experience; loan origination, CRM, borrower portal, underwriting or document-management systems; OCR, document classification, financial spreading or data extraction; AI/LLM in production; multi-tenant apps and complex permissions; distributed teams; early/growth-stage companies.

*Working Arrangement*

This is a fully remote independent contractor engagement. The contractor determines their own working schedule, methods, and location, and provides their own equipment, workspace, and internet access.

For collaboration purposes, the contractor should generally be reachable during an availability window overlapping U.S. Eastern Time business hours to participate in planning sessions, technical discussions, code reviews, and occasional production support. This reflects when real-time coordination typically occurs; it is not a mandated work schedule or a minimum-hours requirement.

We are looking for a provider who communicates proactively and maintains clear visibility on progress and blockers.

*Engagement Terms*

This is an independent contractor engagement, not employment. The contractor is responsible for their own taxes, social contributions, insurance, and any registrations required in their jurisdiction, and is not entitled to employee benefits.

Service fees will be based on experience, technical ability, communication skills, and the level of ownership the contractor can assume. Fee structure, invoicing, engagement term, and other commercial terms will be discussed during the selection process.

The contractor is free to provide services to other clients; exclusivity is not required.
